Shelter Animal CaretakerEssential Functions:Care for, feed, and monitor animals in the shelterReport observed health or behavior issues to department Assistant Manager/ManagerClean assigned areas daily in compliance with standard operating proceduresProvide information to the public about Humane Society of North Texas programs and promote good animal care and responsible pet ownershipKeep current inventoryMaintain assigned equipment, supplies and vehicles in safe condition and report any problems or needed repairs to the department Assistant Manager/ManagerRepresent the Humane Society of North Texas by providing excellent customer serviceProtect the confidential information on customers and donorsWalk dogs daily in all weather conditionsAbility to deal with fractious animalsWork with dogs on training, such as leash training and behavioral training based on recommendations from the behaviorist and trainersAdditional tasks assigned by department Assistant Manager/ManagerAbility to meet physical demandsKnowledge, Skills and Abilities Needed to Perform the Essential Functions of this Position:High School Diploma or GEDExperience with animalsAbility to read, write and communicate effectivelyKnowledge and ability to accurately work with detailed information on paper and computerized formatAbility to work under stressful circumstancesWorking knowledge of breeds, diseases, medical conditions, and animal handling and behaviorSelf-motivated, works effectively under pressure and has the ability to multi-taskWorks collaboratively with all departments within the organizationAbility to learn and quickly adapt to changes in programs and proceduresAbility to represent the Humane Society of North Texas in a professional mannerMust be able to deal with fractious animalsWill be subject to exposure of animal odors, extreme levels of ammonia, diseases, possible contagious conditions, bites, scratches, animal waste and moderate noise levelsMust support the mission and values of HSNTPhysical DemandsThe physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the jobReasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functionsThis position is regularly required to use hands to fingers, handle, talk, hear, stand, walk, sit, reach with hands and arms, and stoop, kneel or crouchThe position holder must be able to regularly lift and/or move up to 40 pounds without assistance, up to 80 pounds with assistanceWhile performing the duties of this job this position may be exposed to animal odors or airborne particlesThe noise level in the work environment is usually moderateWorking ConditionsThe individual performing this job may be required to work more than 8 hours in a day or 40 hours in a weekThis job description is not designed to cover or contain a comprehensive listing of activities, duties or responsibilities that are required by the individual.
